bENCOURAGEd to: Keep Moving

Updated: Jun 5, 2019

Tuesday's Tip to bENCOURAGEd...

There he was, dried up and stuck to the sheet rock with only less than an inch to escape, if only he had kept moving.  "What is that?" my daughter asked me as she shrieked and pointed to the space above our patio window.  As we climbed onto our over sized chair we leaned in to get a closer look at some sort of black twig like thing attached to our wall.

After much observation and a bit of prying we discovered that it was some sort of dried up bug.  The trail on the wall a few inches behind it helped us determine that it was a slug.  A slug in our house!  This creature had some how come through our window sill and "slimed" its way across the wall.  Based on its direction it was headed back out side, but it was stopped by the curtain.  Apparently, it gave up and died right there next to the crown molding.  After we pried the little guy off of the wall I noticed how close he had been to his destination and I thought to myself - only a little stood in the way of his lot!

Moving is not an option when progress is on the line.  In order to progress we must move even if it is little by little.  Our day by day growth will turn into weekly, monthly, and yearly development.  It is when we stop that we begin to get stuck where we are.  That slug had made a trail, a line, behind him. But when he stopped moving forward that line ended.  To an observer his line of movement looked incomplete.  I could see exactly where he was headed and it was sad to know that he did not make it there even though it was within his reach.  His progress ended when he no longer moved forward.

What is it that would make us stop in our tracks?  For that slug it was a curtain or perhaps the fear of what was on the other side of it that stopped him.  What if behind the next obstacle in front of us is our victory - our finish line?  Would we be so quick to give up if we knew what was beyond the window sill?  Or is it the unknown distance between us and our destination that causes us to lay aside our forward motion?  We need to believe that we are more than a slug, whether we feel like one or not!

To bENCOURAGEd we must keep moving on, even if sometimes it feels like we are dragging at a snails pace.

A snail moving is at least getting somewhere.

We can get from where we are to where God knows that we can be when we make the decision to keep moving forward.  When we keep spending time with God each day; keep disciplined in our responsibilities; keep dreaming and applying action to those dreams; keep learning, growing, and applying knowledge in our areas of opportunities; this is when we make forward movement.

So, today we move forward - if even an inch or less.  Little by little, inch by inch, step by step until one day we turn around and see a trail (maybe as messy as the ones our slimy little friends leave in their paths), but that is when we realize we are no longer in that mess.  We made it because we did not stop and dry up along the way and this will help us to bENCOURAGEd Today, so that we can encourage others!

"Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all."
