Often we can become caught up in other people’s work. In grade school, high school, and college I acted and sang often, but what I truly enjoyed was writing and speaking. By my mid twenties I began to pursue the latter. Although I had made this transition I came to second guess leaving music behind. A colleague whom I traveled with would always pack his guitar on our work trips. I witnessed his gift improve and inspire more people with each new city we visited. That was it! I bought a Hondo acoustic guitar and began toting it with me from airport to airport. I practiced and wrote a few songs, but every time I came back to my hotel room and saw that instrument I became more and more frustrated with this chore I had created for myself.

After a few years of staring at my guitar I asked myself some hard questions about my new hobby. Do I love playing guitar or do I enjoy watching and listening to others play guitar? If I practice at guitar am I going to become good at it? Will I enjoy taking the time to practice so I can get better? From these questions I was able to be honest with myself, which helped me channel my time and energy into what I truly enjoyed - writing and speaking.

It is hard to bECOURAGEd when we force work upon ourselves that is meant for other people. But when we choose to be Inspired by others; be Productive with our own work; we will become Fulfilled - then it is easier to bENCOURAGEd!

“But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
