Wednesday's Word of Encouragement
FOOTHOLD - noun
foot·hold | \ ˈfu̇t-ˌhōld \
1: a hold for the feet
2: a position usable as a base for further advance
On a recent trip with my son I fulfilled a desire for him by taking him boulder climbing. We rented the shoes, went through a quick tutorial with a gym employee, and he began ascending the slanted ceilings. He learned fast that he needed some tips. He walked the cushioned floor watching other climbers to determine who he could approach for advice. A friendly skilled climber gave him some hand chalk used for stability. Then a twenty year veteran climber revealed the most important tip to climbing - use your legs more than your arms, because there is more strength in your legs.
We came to find out that having a proper foothold helps climbers leverage the strength of their legs, which keeps their endurance up. The foothold provides a base for their legs to advance up, over, and around even the most intimidating boulders.
What is your base and your foothold towards more productivity in your life?
A base is a place of strength; a gift that you have been given by God. Our footholds are how we leverage those strengths; putting them to use in specific areas that produce so that we can fulfill the plans God has for us. Think of those climbers - their legs are their strength. When they place their legs in the right positions they can move closer to and with greater strides towards their destinations.
