Wednesday's Word of Encouragement
: to list or rate (projects, goals, etc.) in order of priority
1a: a center of activity, attraction, or attention
b: a point of concentration
2: directed attention : emphasis
There are so many things that grab for our attention. Work, children, ministry, friends, spouses, houses, money, health, media, vehicles...LIFE. It can seem like a whirlwind at times. A blur.
How do we manage to concentrate on one thing at a time in order to fulfill it?
What works for one may not work for another, but maybe by looking at my system it might help you with one that would work for you.
First we must prioritize before we can focus.
Twice a year I have a priority meeting with myself. This is different from the meeting I have with myself each week to sync up my To Do list with my calendar and the plans God has for my life. Two times a year I look over my strength list, analyze commitments, “get real” with where I need to spend my time, and analyze the disciplines which help me develop.
These biyearly priority meetings occur around Thanksgiving and sometime in mid May. I choose Thanksgiving break, because it is consistently a time that is slow on my calendar and it is close to the beginning of a new year. I choose mid May because it is the end of our kid’s school year and I can gain perspective before the productive season of the Fall.
During these meetings I pray, sometimes exercise, look over old systems, and restructure. Weeks prior to these meetings I pray and sometimes fast for clarity. This approach sets my meetings up to be productive which keeps them between one to three hours long.
Prioritizing before we can focus is encouraging, because it helps us fulfill the plans God has for us. Being fulfilled we can help others to do the same. This is one big way we can bENCOURAGEd Today, so that we can encourage others!
